Farmer’s agitation enters day 24 as the deadlock between the Farmers’ Unions and the Government continues
The on-going protest of the farmers against the introduction of the 3 controversial farm laws by the government entered its 24th day today. The center of this protest is the Haryana Punjab border where thousands of farmers have camped for more than three weeks now. In a recent development, it has been stated that apart from stepping up their agitation, they are even prepared to celebrate Republic Day, which is held on 26th January every year, with a tractor rally.
On Friday, yesterday, PM Modi, spoke to the farmers of MP. He addressed them through the virtually held “Kisan Kalyan Sammelan” that was telecast in the district headquarters of MP as well as 23,000 villages of India. During his talk, which lasted one hour, Prime Minister Modi tried to explain how the introduction of the three laws would help improve the lives of the farmers. He went on to add that the Government was committed to the well-being and welfare if the farmers. Towards the end of his speech he said that although everything was being done keeping the progress of the farmers in mind, which he had tried to put across if they were still not convinced and had any concerns regarding the bills, he would not hesitate in bowing his head, folding his hands and listening to them.
The statement issued by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, after Narendra Modi’s address to the MP farmers, voiced a lot of displeasure and clearly showed how upset they were. It was mentioned in the statement that the PM had linked the farmers’ agitation with a political manifesto of the opposition parties and this they considered as an open attack on the farmers and the purpose of the protests. They said that Narendra Modi had detracted from the agenda of repealing the three Farm Acts that the protesting farmers wanted, but had instead stooped to the level of representing himself as a party leader ignoring the larger interest of the country as a whole.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said they are hopeful of resolving the on-going farmers’ stir before the New Year begins.
