New Delhi February 3, 2021

Micro blogging site and social networking service Twitter has become a hotbed for the expression of views, support, and dissent on the on-going farmer’s protest

With many raising their views and opinions on Twitter, and controversies that have sparked debates and protests, social participation is very high on Twitter. In a recent move, many Twitter handles have being suspended or deactivated with regard to the sensitivity of the content that had been put out by its users.

In a recent tweet, all the way from Stockholm by climate change activist – Greta Thunberg support has been expressed for farmers.  The teenager has expressed her support for the protesting farmers who are fighting for the withdrawal of the 3 farm laws by saying that she stands in solidarity with them. This was expressed through her tweet on Tuesday. Her tweet came after the solidarity expressed by well- known singer and actress Rihanna. She expressed her concern over the shutting off of internet services in several regions by the Centre.

This decision was taken by the Centre in the wake of the Farmers agitation and the aggression and untoward incidents that had taken place on the 26th of January. Other well-known personalities and people in power from overseas who have voiced their support with the Indian farmers are UK Member of Parliament Claudia Webbe,  US House representative Jim Costa, Meena- author and niece of US Vice President Kamala Harris. She drew a parallel between the attacks on the US Democracy which she said was the oldest and now the Indian democracy which is the most populous. She said it was no coincidence that this has happened.  She said .she saw a correlation in the two incidents and there should be no room for “ FASCIST DICTATORS ” anywhere.
