TMC eyes the support of political stalwarts for its joint Kolkata rally in January 2021.
Mamata Banerjee is trying to amass the support of anti BJP leaders like Sharad Pawar, Arvind Kejriwal, MK Stalin and others for participation in the joint Kolkata rally next month. According to a TMC statement after Mamta spoke to Pawar on Sunday, with this request he has consented and agreed to join in.
On Sunday, Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister thanked DMK President MK Stalin and the four Chief Ministers who had supported her stand on the Centre’s move to transfer IPS officers. The 4 Chief Ministers who had supported her were Bhupesh Baghel, Arvind Kejriwal, Ashok Gehlot, and Capt. Amarinder. The West Bengal Chief Minister, had tweeted her gratitude to them and said that with this transfer, the Center was encroaching on the authority of the State government, which she saw as interference. Mamata has a joint meeting of the anti BJP leaders on her agenda in January.
This will be similar to the public meetings held in 2019 before the Lok Sabha polls. She is hopeful of convincing senior regional leaders like Pawar, Stalin and Kejriwal to participate. Sharad Pawar according to TMC sources has expressed his support with Mamata and will be joining the rally in January 2021.
Recently there has been a tussle between the Central and the state government, due to the direction given by the Union Home Ministry concerning 3 IPS officers who are being sent on central deputation. The duty of these officers was the responsibility of security cover for the BJP National chief – JP Nadda. Last week the convoy of Nadda was attacked by TMC Security workers.
