Bollywood loses Imtiaz Khan

Veteran actor Imtiaz Khan, brother of noted actor Amjad Khan, passed away at the age of 77, on March 17, 2020. Unconfirmed reports of the cause of his death attribute it to heart failure. His untimely demise have left his fans and members of the Bollywood fraternity in a state of shock.  Imtiaz is survived by his wife and popular television actress Krutika Desai and daughter Ayesha Khan.

Some of the memorable roles of Imtiaz Khan were his roles in films like Hulchul, Pyaara Dost and the popular film Yaadon Ki Baraat.  It was said that Imtiaz Khan initially wanted to become a Director but due to his financial constraints he was left with no option but to face the camera as a livelihood to earn money. However, Imitiaz pursued his first love for Direction  and went on to direct a few plays. s also directed plays. Many say that Imtiaz Khan wanted to become a director but due to the financial crunch during those days, he was forced to face the camera.  

Most of us do not know that Imtiaz changed his name from Zecharian Khan to Imtiaz Khan after entering Bollywood.  In the earlier days as opposed to the modern times where astrology plays a very important role in deciding the screen names of actors  in those days it was considered a very important and well thought of issue where screen names were coined by producers based on deliberations and  evaluations on what names would suit the personalities of the stars. His colleagues and the film fraternity were quick to offer condolences on social media.

Jaaved Jaaferi, who worked with him in the 200 film Gang, wrote “Worked with him in Gang.    Superb actor and wonderful human being. #RIP bhai.”

Khan’s film career was dotted with more than 20 films including  Feroz Khan’s 1975 film Dharmatma starring Hema Malini, Keshu Ramsay’s 1987 film Dak Bangla , Feroz Khan’s 1988 film Dayavan  which also featured Madhuri Dixit, Vinod Khanna and Amrish Puri, R.G. Thaker’s film Maha Badmaash, which had Neetu Singh ( Kapoor )  and Vinod Khanna in the main roles.

Anju Mahendroo  a close actor friend in her tribute to him shared a throwback photo and said : “Once upon a time! Rest in eternal peace my friend, Imtiaz Khan.” This  pictured captured Amjad and Imtiaz Khan sitting with their family. 

Krutika Desai Imtiaz’s wife has starred in TV shows like – Mere Angne Mein, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, Utttaran and Kumkum – Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan and many others.

After the loss of Amjad Khan his brother, Imtiaz Khan’s passing away is indeed another big loss for the family and friends of the Khan family.
