More women to figure in Biden’s Government – 5 women deputy secretaries to be selected

Washington, January 18, 2021

Joe Biden is all set to take over on Wednesday and has made way for more women in key positions in his government.

At least 5 more women will be nominated in key positions to take charge of daily operations. Holding no 2 positions at key cabinet agencies, these women will assume important roles.

This decision indicates Biden’s desire to give women a push and give a fillip to their status. He is all set to tackle various crisis situations and address issues including low morale amongst other major problems currently being faced by the country. He will include deputies who have practical experience and appoint them in critical departments.

The list of nominees who have yet to be confirmed by the Senate include the following names: Polly Trottenberg at Transportation, Jewel H. Bronaugh at Agriculture, Andrea Palm at Health and Human Services Cindy Marten at Education and  Elizabeth Klein at Interior,

As part of his strategy to appoint familiar and experienced officials, Biden, has chosen 4 women Trottenberg, Klein, Bronaugh, and Palm who have held similar positions in the same departments during Former President Obama’s term.

Trottenberg, for example, can bring a combination of municipal, state, and federal experience at the transportation department which would be very beneficial to the team. She has for the past 7 years been in charge of New York City’s transportation department. She has brought in several moves to improve transportation, which includes a busway in Manhattan along the 14th Street.

The role of a deputy is very crucial since they have to manage the day to day responsibilities of huge organizations. The deputy is considered the leader who is responsible for the smooth functioning. The secretary travels and acts as the familiar figurehead.

Palm has experience in one of the largest health agencies namely the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Klien has served in the Clinton presidency as well as Obama’s and worked on climate change and renewable energy.

Marten would have to give up her job at the San Diego Unified School District as superintendent to serve as deputy in the Education Department in Biden’s government.
