UK strain of virus sees Australia formulating stricter air travel rules – Brisbane under lockdown

Prime Minister, Scott Morrison announces a new set of rules and stricter guidelines for both domestic and International travel in Australia that has been necessitated by the new strain of the UK virus.

 Mr. Morrison has emphasized the importance of wearing a mask throughout the duration of air travel and even at the airports, by travelers. The new set of measures was announced after the National cabinet and was done with the objective of reducing the flight caps for International arrivals from next month.

The discovery of the new strain of the UK virus has compelled a re-look into the safety of air travel.

In a live update regarding the recent UK strain, Brisbane is to enter a lockdown following a recent detection of it. The residents have been asked to prepare for a 3-day lockdown. This decision was taken after a quarantine hotel employee was tested positive for the new virus. It was said that the necessary measures of contact tracing will be done and all mandatory measures adhered to. Greater Brisbane will be labeled as a Coronavirus hotspot.

The areas that come under this new directive are Logan, Brisbane, Redlands regions of the city, and Moreton Bay. The PM has urged the citizens of Australia to stay where they are and curb unnecessary travel.

The areas in Greater Brisbane to undergo the lockdown are Metro South, Metro-North, and West Moreton.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk while commenting on the new restrictions said that this new virus was 70% faster spreading and therefore there was a huge challenge to see that it is curbed effectively. She also urged the Australian citizens to behave responsibly and ensure that this remains a 3-day lockdown flouting of norms would probably result in a 30 day period she added.
