Steep rise in hospitalizations due to Covid-19, and no beds available in California

The US is once again topping the charts for its peak in Covid-19 infection rates and there are no beds available till a patient dies and vacates it.

With an alarming rise once again the Covid-19 Infections and deaths, doctors in Santa Clara facing an immense medical challenge. They are attending to patients who need ICU attention and are critically ill in the emergency rooms. This is due to the shortage of hospital beds. An emergency room physician while addressing a news conference on Thursday disclosed that it is very unfortunate that they have to wait for the death of a Covid patient so that the occupied bed is vacated and the others in the queue can then be shifted.

The state of California has registered more than 21,000 Covid -19 hospitalizations all across the state and a total of 4500 in ICU’s with increasing numbers.

The US has set the highest one-day records at the end of the year. On both the counts, hospitalizations as well as the deaths reported there has recorded a  sharp increase in the numbers.

On the last Wednesday of 2020, the data from John Hopkins University showed a record of more than 3,740 deaths due to the Coronavirus.

The projections for January too look grim with a prediction of more than 80,000 deaths in America in the upcoming 3 weeks. With a huge number of Americans pinning their hopes on the rollout of the new vaccine, it is being said that the reach of the vaccine for the general public is slower than expected.  The rate of Covid related infections and deaths are continuing to rise unabated.

The state of Georgia is amongst one of the highest affected with a new number of daily cases that are doubling as compared to the figures six weeks ago. The large convention center at Atlanta is being used as a medical facility since the hospitals are overflowing and have no further capacity to accommodate the sick. Other states in the US too are reporting an increase in numbers.
