Quebec Public Health has put out information on its website informing the public that new data will not be available between Dec 25th – Dec 27th and between Jan 1- Jan 3.

The current data released by the public health authorities of Quebec, updated till 23rd December, shows a total of 2,349 new cases. The novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of 46 people so far. The website of the Quebec Public Health has however stated, that it will not update new data on the following dates: Dec 25, 26th and 27th and January 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

A partial lockdown that began on December 25th, Christmas Day was announced by the provincial government. This lockdown included mandatory instructions on the closing down of schools and all non-essential businesses.

The Premier of Quebec, Francois Legault has urged all the residents of the province to avoid gathering with family and friends except within their own immediate circle.  People living alone were exempted. 

A few weeks ago fines of $1,500 and above was announced for those who were caught breaking rules.

These new rules and guidelines were issued keeping the high rate of new infections in mind.

The high schools and elementary schools in Quebec are shut till January 1. It is said that plans of connecting schools with students through digital education is underway.

These decisions are taken to avoid the spreading of community transmission and also an attempt to reduce the stress on the public health care system. 

The updated Coronavirus data will be released on Monday. The Montreal police will also release information on the number of tickets that they have issued during the weekend for rule flouters.

A number of calls were received by the Montreal Police informing them about people who were not adhering to the law and the imposition of the COVID-19 rules.

Doses of the Pfizer – BioNTech vaccine have already been given to the residents of Quebec. It was disclosed that a total of 3,942 doses have been administered.
