A major announcement was made by Lawmakers for a $900 billion COVID-19 relief deal. Voting for this will be held on Monday.
A major breakthrough was made on Sunday, in the deadlock surrounding months of negotiations regarding the COVID -19 relief package. The Congressional leaders, announced a deal which covered a $900 billion COVID – 19 relief package. The inclusions were giving loans to businesses that were small in size, issuing benefits to those who were unemployed as a result of the pandemic, and also included individual checks. On Sunday afternoon it was announced by the senate majority leader McConnell that the Americans would have an important rescue package coming their way. McConnell was hopeful that after the finalising of the test and making due provisions for any last minute impediments; it would be passed by the House and Senate and then be presented to Donald Trump for his signature so that it can be converted into law. Monday is the day marked for the debate and voting on this package by the two chambers.
Tied to this measure will be a $1.4 trillion spending bill that will be a must pass and is being looked at as funding programs and federal agencies through the end of the fiscal year i.e. September 30th.
This agreement will put an end to the on-going long debates and arguments between the Democrats and the Republicans regarding the size and type of legislation required. The worldwide calamity has wreaked havoc in the USA too causing the death of 317,000 Americans, with millions getting infected and a huge number of businesses shutting down incurring grave losses. On Sunday, a confirmed count of COVI D -19 cases in the USA was reported to have exceeded 17.8 million.
Chuck Schummer, the Senate minority leader said that although this was not a perfect deal it would still go long way in providing some much needed “emergency relief “to the Americans. He also mentioned that once Biden takes over he would continue his efforts to push for the passing of a more beneficial bill.
