Motorola Razr – The first smartphone from Motorola with a folding display to launch in India today

After a long wait of more than 3 months Motorola Razr with the folding display feature is all set to be launched in India today.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip last month and now Motorola Razr comes to the Indian markets  with a folding OLED display bringing back the flip form factor.

The outbreak of the COVID – 19 infection has however limited the phone to being launched online only. A live stream  link will be available for those interested in watching it.

Motorola has taken off from the original design of Razr V3 in  2004 with the new design element being the folding OLED display on the inside replacing the keypad and a full length OLED display from top to bottom coupled with a small TFT display.

The Motorola Razr launched in the US market is selling at a price of $1,500. In India it is available on  on Flipkart with the limited choice of only the single Noir Black colour and a retail price of INR124,999 ($1,685). While the official sales are scheduled to start on April 2nd, Pre-bookings open today.

The new Razr differs from other folding phones and focuses on  style and recreating the past association with the previous model – the older Razr  in terms of its design.

After it is folded shut,  the small 2.6-inch Quick View with an  OLED display on the top shows notifications and all its  content, it acts as a viewfinder that assists in taking selfies  by using the main the camera, controls music playback and show time via a widget.  Under the display is a 16-megapixel main camera that can be used both as a main camera and a selfie camera.

There is a 6.2-inch flexible OLED display with a resolution of 876 x 2142 pixels inside the Razr.  A unique hinge system supports the display that helps it fold into half. Care has been taken by the company to avoid a permanent crease on the display as well as dust and debris from getting inside,

It runs on Android 9 as of now.  Snapdragon 710 chipset to power the phone is used it also keeps the daily tasks running.  It has a 6GB RAM and storage of 128GB. A 2510mAh battery is fitted in it with a support for Motorola’s 15W Turbo Power fast-charging system. An eSIM can be used  on the Razr and but this model does not have a headphone jack.
