Reliance's JioMart online grocery delivery service comes in direct competition with Grofers, Amazon & Flipkart.

After much success of other online grocery delivery stores like Amazon, Grofers & Flipkart, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) introduced their new venture of delivering groceries & other household essentials by soft-launching JioMart. The project however, has been launched on a pilot basis in only a few parts of Maharashtra like Kalyan, Navi Mumbai & Thane & is powered by Reliance Retail and Reliance Jio.

JioMart is an online grocery delivery service that is an answer to all the household essentials needs & requirement of groceries, offered by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) & powered by Reliance Retail and Reliance Jio. Consumers can head to the online store to buy their necessities from nearby retailers. Similar to Amazon Prime Now & Grofers, JioMart also is an online platform that does not sell commodities or groceries directly to the consumers but, connects online buyers with offline retailers. It sources grocery items from nearby merchants instead of obtaining it from a native warehouse.

It is an online-to-offline marketplace where offline retailers can serve the needs of the consumers in their locality to buy groceries online. At the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) at RIL, Ambani said that the company through JioMart estimates to connect more than 20 crore households in the country with three crore offline retailers.

The company is now aiming to scale the business up to other regions as well since it is currently available only in three parts of Maharashtra. And, according to a report by LiveMint, Jio users are already getting invited to avail the introductory discounts on JioMart.

Reliance is also on the way to launch an app for JioMart as told to LiveMint by a Reliance Retail official. JioMart’s website also mentions the launch of the app on iOS & Android soon. They claim on their website saying that they will price their products at affordable rates & offer more than 50,000 grocery items. To give a fierce competition to others in the market, JioMart will also provide free home delivery option without the restriction of any minimum order value. It also claims to offer “no questions asked return policy” plus an express delivery service. JioMart website also requires retailers to become sellers by filling a form to pre-register from their website & save up to Rs 3,000 as soon as the app launches. They are calling this venture as “Desh Ki Nayi Dukaan” which means the country’s new shop.

JioMart will equip sellers by partnering with them with the point of sale (PoS) terminals, inventory management skills, GST compliance, low-interest working capital, supply chain management & integrated billing applications.

JioMart aims to make the most of the available resources at RIL as it is also powered by Reliance Jio. Reliance Retail, on the other hand already holds a robust offline presence with Reliance Fresh all over the country.
