Dr K Sudhakar, Health and Medical Education Minister for Karnataka has said that the stage is set for the distribution and storage of the approved COVID-19 vaccine in Karnataka.
The second dry run of the COVID-19 vaccine has been successfully completed in many states along with the state of Karnataka. Dr. Sudhakar has indicated that Karnataka is all set to receive the 13.90 lakh doses earmarked for its first phase. The state is fully geared to collect, store and distribute the vaccine.
On Sunday, the state vaccine storage facility was inspected on Sunday. Prime Minister Modi will be connecting through video conferencing today, with the Chief Ministers of all the states.
The vaccination drive is set to roll out on the 16th of January. A total of 3 crore doses have been kept aside for the front line staff of health professionals.
Commenting on the storage facilities the Minister said that there were two facilities one located in Bengaluru and the other in Belagavi. The regional storage was spread over 5 centres in Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Chitradurga, Kalburgi and Bagalakote.
The provision of a corporation storage facility in every district is also there. A total of 2,767 cold chain points and 50 blocks of BBMP will all be used for the vaccine distribution activity.
The procedure will encompass sending the vaccine to the regional centres. This will be one by using 900 vaccine carriers. From the regional centres, it will go to the district centres. A total of 45 lakh doses can be stored in the 2 walk-in coolers that Bengaluru has. The provision of a walk-in freezer also features in the Centre’s plan.
The state is fully prepared for the first phase where 13.90 lakh doses will be rolled out.
