The suspense over the current lockdown will end today – PM Modi will convene virtually with all Chief Ministers to discuss and take a decision

Speculation is rife in India about whether the 21 day lock down period will end as suggested in the 14th April or will it continue beyond. The suspense will hopefully end today after the proposed meeting of PM Narendra Modi with all the Chief Ministers today.

According to recent reports most of the Chief Ministers are in favour of extending the lock down to curb the spread of the disease which has still not reached the community transmission or phase 3 the deadliest of the phases. WHO has also issues a warning that if the lock down is released all at once, then the effects could be deadly. WHO has also confirmed that stage 3 – the community transmission in India has not yet been reached.

The report released by ICMR is indeed worrying and precautionary measures are in the best interest of all. The recent figures show a total of 74446 COVID 19 positive cases in India, with 239 dead and a worrying figure of 1035 affected in the past 24 hours. Mumbai is the current hot spot of India with the maximum number of COVID -19 cases.

Today is the 18th day of the lock down. PM Modi had said during his previous address to the Nation that we must strictly abide by the staying indoors suggestion and not crossing the “Lakshman Rekha “of our respective houses. In the absence of a vaccine and cure for this deadly disease the only solution at the moment was to exercise precautionary measures and practice social distancing and stay indoors.

The meeting of PM Narendra Modi today with all the Chief Ministers will discuss steps to tackle and curb the looming menace of the COVID – 19 and will also discuss and take a decision on whether to extend the ongoing lockdown period or not?
