Coronavirus claims its third fatality in India 

With the total number of positive COVID- 19 cases in India, at a new high of 142, a 63 year old man, a resident of Mumbai succumbed to the deadly virus today, taking the total number of deaths in India to 3.  The 2 earlier deaths were that of a 76-year-old man from Kalaburagi in Karnataka who had a travel history to Saudi Arabia and a woman in Delhi aged 68 years-old woman who died after they tested positive for the infection.

The Mumbai patient who died today had a travel history of visiting Dubai and his death marks the first fatality in Maharashtra. The state of Maharashtra has recorded the highest Coronavirus cases totalling to 39. This patient had not disclosed his travel history earlier in the private hospital where he was admitted. His wife too has tested positive, for the COVID – 19 but is considered to be stable now. 

The Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has informed us that the exact cause of the death of the Mumbai patient is not yet conclusive pointing only to the COVID – 19 infection, since he had other ailments too.

To prevent the spread of this dreaded virus the government has ordered the closure of Educational Institutions, places of large public gatherings including cinema halls, and advised people to self-isolate themselves and adopt quarantine measures.

Other security measures that were adopted by the government were banning the entry of passengers from the EU, Turkey and the U.K between March 18th to 31st March, 2020. A travel advisory issued by the government also prohibited entry with immediate effect of travellers from Afghanistan, Philippines and Malaysia. 

State helpline numbers to tackle emergencies were set up and made known to the public.  The public is now aware of the importance of “Social distancing. “ 

Tourist attractions like the “ Taj Mahal “ have also shut down and people have time and again been warned not to visit crowded or public spaces to prevent the spread of this disease.

India has reported 142 cases so far with Foreign Nationals accounting for 24 cases so far.

2 fresh cases from Noida have been reported one of a person who had just returned from France and who has been isolated and the second case also has been taken seriously and quarantine imposed on the same.
