We have always heard about people saying that eating something in the morning before going to the gym or exercising is a good habit because it maintains good blood sugar levels& a person don’t feel dizzy while exercising. But, a recent study showed that eating nothing before exercising is a better way to maintain overall health.
A recent study based in the UK assessed 30 obese men to know when is the best time to exercise, which was reported in CNN Health. And, it was researched that people who do not eat anything before exercising are more likely to lose weight than people who go for exercising after having breakfast.
The research showed two different ideas on the same. One is the eat-first group & the other is the eat-after group.
The eat-first group says that eating breakfast before going for a workout can increase the blood sugar levels & also increases the intensity & capacity of the workouts.
On the other hand, the eat-after group says that exercising without having any food uses carbs, fats & the stored energy increase the workout intensity.
An important thing to note here is that the eat-after group did not help in burning more calories compared to the other group but helped in the overall maintenance of health.
According to Javier Gonzalez, an exercise physiologist, associate professor from the University of Bath in the department for health, said that looking at both the groups that lost a similar amount of weight & gained an equal amount of fitness, the eat-after group had more ability to respond to insulin & the only difference between both the groups were timing of the food intake, as told to CNN Health.
Eating after exercising makes the body respond more to insulin & also decrease the risks of strokes & diabetes.
A study taken in 2017 by The University of Bath had found that the workouts after having breakfast helped in losing weight, while the same research was also carried out in 2010 & quite contrast results were found. In 2010, the study was carried out on 3 aspects – people who didn’t work out, people who exercise before breakfast, and people who exercise after breakfast.
And, it was found out that workouts after having breakfast can help in gaining weight as opposed to the study carried out in 2017. They also found out that the eat-after group lost more weight & maintained their blood sugar level.
So, there might be two polar opposite views on the above, but the recent study shows that eating breakfast after workouts helps in maintaining overall health.
