Hathras Stampede Incident, Bhole Baba Satsang Live: After meeting the injured and the families of the deceased from the Hathras stampede, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a judicial inquiry led by a retired High Court judge and promised to hold those responsible accountable. The stampede resulted in the deaths of 121 people, with an FIR registered under sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita against the organizers, including main volunteer Devprakash Madhukar and other unidentified individuals.

What happened? On Wednesday, the death toll increased from 116 to 121. The stampede, which occurred during a satsang hosted by local preacher Narayan Sakar Vishwa Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, left 116 people dead and several others injured. A preliminary investigation pointed to several contributing factors: the turnout exceeded expectations, many people fell on uneven ground while trying to collect soil that the preacher had walked on, and healthcare facilities struggled to manage the influx of casualties.

Who is Bhole Baba, the preacher? Bhole Baba, originally named Suraj Pal Singh, is a self-styled preacher who was previously a constable with the Uttar Pradesh police. At 58, Singh hails from a Dalit family in Bahadur Nagar village of Kasganj district, about 65 km from Hathras where the stampede took place.
