Happy Buddha Purnima 2020 Quotes and Wishes for Facebook, WhatsApp

Buddha Purnima is observed on 7 May 2020, Thursday all over India. Buddha Purnima is also called as Buddha Jayanti and it is celebrated as birth date of Lord Buddha. The day is also marked as a public holiday in many parts of India, Nepal, Cambodia and others.

Now let us understand who is Buddha. Prince Siddhartha Gautama, fondly called as Gautama Buddha is the founder of Buddhism. Prince Gautama was born in Lumbini, which is the current-day Nepal. Later, he was raised in Kapilavastu. It was believed when the Sidhdhartha Gautama was born, an astrologer had predicted and shared with Gautama’s father that Gautama will either become one of the greatest kings or he will leave all the materialistic things and go away from the kingdom.

Being a prince’s father Suddhona wanted his son Gautama to rule the kingdom and live like a powerful king and hence, he did not allow Gautama to go out of the palace walls. However, one day, the 29 years old king Gautama went out of the palace and was shocked to see the sufferings and pain of common people. It is said that Gautama saw the struggles of four people – one common man, one old man, one ill person and one dead person. Later, he saw one spiritual holy person who was satisfied with his life.

It is believed that these experiences made the prince Gautama leave his luxurious comfortable life and walk on the path of spirituality to find the meaning of his life. It is an interesting journey of how the prince became the world-renowned Lord Buddha. Buddha always practiced ‘dharma’ and his teachings involved around patience, generosity, kindness, compassion, wisdom and abstaining from killing living beings.

In India, the day of Buddha Purnima is celebrated by wearing white clothes and avoiding to eat non-vegetarian food. Also, a sweet dish ‘Kheer’ is prepared at homes and some people following Buddhism visit Viharas, monastery for Buddhist renunciates.
