Apple is all set to obtain the weather app “Dark Sky”, for their mobile phones and the Android version of this application will be shut down. The “Dark sky” will be available in Apple OS by July 2020; but the terms of the deal are yet to be made public.
According to Dark Sky, the service to existing Android phone users and subscribers will continue until July 1, after which the app will stop working on android phones.
Subscribers, who have subscribed to this application on their android phone and are still active subscribers at the time of discontinuation, will receive a refund.
Dark Sky co-founder Adam Grossman said in a statement on Tuesday that the goal had always been to provide the best weather information to the world as accurately as possible. This is to help as many people as they could to stay safe and dry and at the same time respect everyone’s privacy. He added that this was the best platform and there was no better place to accomplish these goals than at Apple. He said that they were excited to have the opportunity to reach as many people with a far greater support and impact, than they could have done alone.
There will be no changes to the application “Dark Sky” for the iOS at this time. It will also continue to be available for purchase in the App Store for android users till 1st July 2020. The Dark Sky website will remain active beyond that time in support of API and iOS App customers.
The API service for existing customers will not be changing today, but they would ll no longer accept new signups. The API would continue to function through the end of 2021 revealed a spokesperson of Grossman.
The Spokesman also added that “Dark Sky’s” Android app had been downloaded more than a million times.
