Megastar Amitabh Bachchan who is very active on social media and hugely popular joined an initiative with the Government of India to create awareness in the minds of the Indian public. Amitabh joined hands with the Government of India to create public messages to educate people and create the much needed awareness to fight the deadly pandemic of the Coronavirus.
In a video which he shared on his twitter with a follower base of 40.7 Million, he talks about why people must use washrooms and not defecate in the open. A recent Chinese study, he mentioned showed that the Coronavirus can stay on in the human excreta for many weeks and if they defecate in the open it can spread easily and endanger the lives of many people. To illustrate this point further he said if a fly sits on the open excreta and then moves on to sit on your fruits, vegetables and food it will end up contaminating everything that it sits on.
In India a lot has been done in the past even before the outbreak of the Coronavirus through public service messages and even some Bollywood films to educate the people of India to practice proper hygiene and not defecate in the open. This issue was and is still seen as a burning problem in India especially in rural India.
He also mentioned the importance of social distancing to avoid the spread of disease through human transmission and also highlighted the importance of washing your hands and practicing good hand hygiene. He said one must wash their hands for at least 20 seconds.
The 77 year old popular star has a huge fan base in India and Internationally. He is respected and loved by his fans hence such social awareness messages will reach large numbers and will have high possibility of being viewed positively and being widely accepted.
