PM Modi Requests All Citizens To Observe Janata Curfew On Sunday The 22nd Of March From 7 A.M. Till 9 P.M.

In a live address to the Nation on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged the people of India to embrace a novel move “Janata Curfew “ by staying indoors and avoiding public places from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. to fight the threat of Coronavirus .

Coronavirus has till date affected over 180 people in India with 4 fatalities. This serious pandemic has affected over 100 countries all over the world.

On Wednesday evening the PM chaired a high level meeting after which the PMO announced that the PM would address the Nation on Thursday evening.

Today, the PM in his speech outlined the preparedness of the government to ensure the adequate supply of essential goods and services and discouraged people from hoarding and panic buying.

He introduced and explained the initiative of Janata curfew as below:

The main objective of this was to control the spread of Coronavirus by practising self-isolation and refraining from gathering in public places thereby avoiding large crowds and the risk of human transmission from one another. “All citizens must abide by this,” PM Narendra Modi said and stay at home and off the roads for 14 hours on Sunday from 7 a.m to 9 p.m.  He urged State Governments to help in making this drive a great success.

This initiative would inculcate the practice of self -isolation, social distancing and responsibility towards fellow citizens by staying away and controlling the spread of disease from any affected individual to another and protecting healthy individuals who have not  contacted the disease from getting infected , in fact protecting all the citizens who are vulnerable and prone to catching the infection.

He requested people above the age of 60 who were considered the most susceptible age group not to step outdoors.

However, people who were employed in essential services like the police department, media, fire fighting, home delivery and do on would be exempted from participating in this public initiative.

The Prime Minister urged all citizens to line up in their doorways, balconies and windows at 5 p.m. on Sunday the 22nd March 2020, and clap and ring a bell for 5 minutes as a token of appreciation and encouragement for the efforts of all employed in essential services working relentlessly towards the well-being of the citizens of India.

The PM called for wide spread awareness of the Janata curfew by requesting each individual to inform 10 others by calling them up about this initiative. 

In view of the P.M’s speech today the nation gears up for Sunday the 22nd to participate in the Janata Curfew.
