Now, a new diet trend is taking its place in the diet culture called “Intermittent fasting.” Intermittent itself means fragmented so, in this diet culture, a person needs to fragment their food intake for long stretches of time or long intervals. In intermittent fasting, you don’t need to limit your food intake, but it puts boundaries on the time you are eating the food, i.e., it necessitates a person to go on long intervals without having food.

However, obesity experts & recent research says that as compared to other weight-loss diets, intermittent fasting might not be any better.

Krista Varady, studying intermittent fasting at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said that it is a way of fooling your body in having less calorie intake. She also adds saying that yet there has been no substantial evidence that shows intermittent fasting having noticeable effects on the body compared to other diets.

In intermittent fasting, you can limit your food intake to an 8-hour window & can fast for the other 16 hours of the day. This is also known as time-restricted feeding & also includes the time of your sleep. Depending on how you want your fasting to be, you can also limit or expand the eating window.

A few health experts are also of the view that since fasting gets too difficult for some people, the fasting group dropout’s rate is much higher at 38% as compared to 29% of the conventional diet group.

Intermittent fastinghowever, is a good option for people who are habituated to missing or skipping their meals due to their busy schedules. In any case, it is always better to consult a doctor before resorting to any diets. Also, intermittent fasting is not for kids & people on medications or those who have a history of eating disorders.
